Reinoculate Green Smoothie

Smoothies are extremely popular all over the world. They are so quick + easy to make. There are endless recipes and a variety of flavor combos. Some days you may want a fruity smoothie and other days you may want a vegetable, fiber rich smoothie. I enjoy smoothies and for whatever reason I love them most when the weather is cold. In the cold months it is the perfect time to strengthen the immune system. I find that smoothies give the immune system a boost especially when many people are sick and germs/toxins fill the air. Protecting ourselves with vitamins + minerals the body needs is essential for not only immune boosting, but longevity.

Approximately 80% of our immune support is in the gastrointestinal tract aka the gut. Smoothies are an excellent alternative or meal replacement as the food is broken down into a liquid form to ensure proper digestion, thus creating a healthier gastrointestinal tract. In terms of longevity, a good smoothie should always contain a healthy amount of antioxidants. Berries contain a healthy amount of antioxidants, polyphenols, flavonoids, and are low glycemic. Low glycemic fruits enables the body’s natural ability to break down food in a quick absorbable fashion.

I am currently not eating too much fruit so my smoothies are filled with veggies + healthy fats. The smoothie that I absolutely love, makes me feel healthy, and more connected spiritually is the Reinoculate Green Smoothie. This smoothie reinoculates the gut. To reinoculate the gut is to bring good bacteria into the gut to regain a healthy microflora balance. The body enjoys homeostasis. Homeostasis is the warmest hug to the body. All disease begins in the gut and most diseases are gut related. This smoothie gives the entire bodily system a reboot, so you feel rejuvenated and that is what we want right?

Check out these fabulous ingredients below:

Romaine Lettuce

All smoothies should have a watery, leafy green veggie. Leafy greens, especially the darker leafy greens contain Vitamin K a natural blood cleanser.  The life of the flesh is in the blood. Leafy greens aid the liver and kidneys to flush out toxins. The blood then is able to pump oxygen it is receiving oxygen from a veggie that is mostly water.

Parsley

Parsley adds a robust, unique flavor to smoothies. I love it in ALL of my smoothies. Parsley is excellent for congestion and cleansing the liver as well. It contains high levels of a flavonoid called apigenin. Flavonoids are not only responsible for giving fruits and veggies their uniques pigments…they reduce risk of heart disease, cancer, and asthma. The flavonoid apigenin has anti-cancer and anti inflammatory properties.

Coconut

In this smoothie I used coconut water and coconut meat. Coconuts are healthy fats as they give the brain the fat it needs to function at an optimal level. Coconut, mainly coconut oil has been attributed to the reversal of dementia. They contain medium chain triglycerides aka MCT. MCTs fuel the brain, reduce allergy flare ups, help use fat for energy, decrease metabolic syndrome, sluggish thyroid, inflammation, and so much more…just put it in your smoothie haha ;)

Cucumbers

Cucumbers hydrate the skin and rejuvenate the cells. These fruits, yes they are indeed fruits, as they have seeds can reverse the aging process. Aging occurs when the cells do not get enough oxygen. What happens when a cell gets no oxygen? They die, they shrivel up, they disappear. How does this show up on our skin? You will see dry skin, wrinkles, lack of  a glow on your skin. The more water you give the body, the more oxygen it gets, the clearer the skin.

Green Apple

Green apples are completely optional in this smoothie, but they add sweetness. Apples contain Vitamin A + C, which boosts the immune system. They are excellent for bone health, providing energy, and controlling diabetes.
